A simple example from the past weekend’s workshop at @thelookingglassbase, illustrating some of the mechanical compensations when lifting the arms (shoulder flexion) in Urdhva Hastasana. There are four main compensations when flexing the arms/shoulders for this pose: . The pelvis shifts forward. . The pelvis tilts forward and the ribcage tilts back moving the lombar into hiper lordosis (the example we see here). . The head shifts forward. . The elbows bend in an attempt to move the hands up and back. These compensations will also appear in other poses with shoulder flexion. Thank you @melanie.stegmueller for being a model for this explanation. Coming soon in the end of January starts the Yoga Functional Anatomy specialized Course at the @thelookingglassbasel.
