Wisdom

Fiona Caitlin

How do we stay present when everything feels like a lot and our nervous systems are running on overdrive? It can be hard to slow down when we’re trying to survive in a world that often teaches us hustle is the way through. Staying busy can feel like safety. It keeps us moving, distracted, and in control. But it can also keep us from noticing the emotions waiting beneath the surface. Some of us find it easy to feel what we’re experiencing; others don’t. We’re all wired differently, shaped by our personalities, life experiences, and conditioning. But in my experience, our emotions hold valuable information. They can point us towards what matters, what needs our attention, and what we’re longing for. Paradoxically, when we allow ourselves to fully feel our emotions, we begin to realise they are experiences we have, not who we truly are. From that place, it becomes easier to listen to what they’re trying to communicate. We don’t always need to understand everything cognitively in the moment. Sometimes the greatest wisdom comes from slowing down, surrendering to stillness, and allowing ourselves to meet what is here with curiosity rather than resistance. ✨ What do I notice in my body right now? ✨ Can I recognise when my nervous system is on high alert? ✨ What changes when I simply allow myself to feel, without trying to fix or push anything away? Listening to ourselves is a practice. Like any skill, it can be learned. And over time, it can become one of the most compassionate ways we care for ourselves.
